End of summer

We had such a fun summer!  The end got mixed up a bit due to camping trips and a family loss, but overall we got a good view of all SLC has to offer in the way of summer fun.  Thanks to all who joined us!  And check back here next summer for a schedule.

Beehive House & Bonneville Trail

This week was supposed to be Cherry Hill, but I'm tired and trying to save my $ for our big camping trip next week, so I changed it back to the Beehive House that we missed a few weeks ago--free, indoors, not too far away.  Leaving Bountiful at 10.

Thursday we're going to the Bonneville Trail in Farmington, but we aren't going to really do the 2.5 miles. My little people are not loving the hiking, so we're going to leave early (9 a.m.) and head up there and walk 15 minutes up and 15 minutes back.  Fresh air, mountains, less hauling 4 and 5 YOs on my shoulders.

Just one this week: Ogden Nature Center

We're skipping the Zoo this week because we moved our trip up and are still out of town.  But, we're still going to the Ogden Nature Center this Thursday.  We'll be at the entrance at 10 a.m.

Clark Planetarium & Middle Fork Wheeler Creek

This summer has been a ball.  I've seen so many new places, especially for the hikes, that I've never seen before, even growing up here! I know it sounds like we're doing a lot, but a few hours twice a week has been very managable--SO much easier than the daily school grind, right?

Last week I forgot to post a reminder that we were out of town, but this week we have some fun things.

Tuesday, July 13: Clark Planetarium: We're going to get there at 11, look around, go to the noon showing of Hubble 3D, and then take a picnic lunch to the lawn of the Capitol Building. 

Thursday, July 15: Middle Fork Wheeler Creek (1.2 mi, 527 ft. elevation change).  This is a 30-minute drive, but it is totally worth it.  It is 1.2 miles one-way with two entrances, so I am hoping to get someone to go with us on this one so we can park a car at the other end and haul everyone back to the start, circus-clown style. If not, we'll do half and backtrack.  Go up the 89 like you're going to Kaysville, then go East up the canyon on 84 up toward Morgan, get on the 167 then left on the 226 toward Snow Basin, look for the Green Pond Trailhead.  We're going to leave Bountiful at 9:15 and take a picnic for an early lunch.

Change for tomorrow: Back to Kaysville for a sweet hike

Darnit, need to change tomorrow and put off Bridal Veil.  We're going back to the East Kaysville Wilderness Park and this time will take the Bonneville Shoreline fork off to the right.  We'll be meeting in the parking lot tomorrow at 10 if you can make it. (From SLC: I-15 to 89 turn right on 200 north, curve around left and right and left again and you're there.)

Red Butte Garden and Bridal Veil Falls

Tomorrow we're going to Red Butte Garden, that's Tuesday, June 29th at 9:30.  Call or email me if you'd like to meet up.


Thursday we're going to Bridal Veil Falls in Provo, in the spirit of doing easier hikes for the kids.  I know that's a trek for many, but if you are interested, just let me know.  I'm aiming to be there at 10:30 a.m. (leaving Bountiful at 9:30) and taking lunch.


Directions: Take the 800 North, Orem exit of I-15 (exit #273) going east on UT 52. After about 4 miles bear left at the US 189 intersection going up Provo Canyon. After about 2 1/2 miles you can turn off at the Bridal Veil Falls/Nunn's Park parking lot to access the Provo River Trail or continue about a half mile to the Bridal Veil Falls overlook which is directly in front of the falls.  I think we're going to park and then hike the half mile and back.
